Hailing from Lincoln, UK, Stephen Dampier aka Retraflex has been involved in the Drum and Bass scene since the late 90s. He fell in love with the scene whilst at university, this is where he met the late great DJ Apocalypse and quickly forged a close working relationship. For the next ten years they ran Cutz Recordingz, promoted regular events in the East Midlands and DJ’ed together up and down the country as Kronic and Apocalpyse.
Tragically in 2009 DJ Apocalypse passed away and Stephen considered quitting the scene. However, together with his close friend Tom Bassi they decided to continue Apocalypse’s legacy by creating the independent record label, Flexout Audio. Together they formed the DJ/production duo of Retraflex playing to crowds across Europe, running events, running the record label and producing/releasing successful tracks such as their dedication to their late friend ‘Apocalypse’ featuring the world famous MC $pyda.
The duo of Retraflex were the driving force behind creating and building Flexout Audio into a successful underground record label with over 50 releases and numerous successful events in the south and north of England. Bringing the best in underground music to the masses the independent label is now based in London and ran by founding member Bassi, after Stephen Retraflex decided to pursue his dream of living in South East Asia.
Stephen decided to continue as Retraflex and is now based in Bangkok, Thailand. He continues to work in the studio, DJ and to push the Flexout Audio sound in South East Asia and beyond.
